It’s indeed exciting to witness older devices receiving new features and improvements through software updates. The recent rollout of iOS 17.4 has pleasantly surprised iPhone 12 users by boosting wireless charging speeds when using third-party Qi2 wireless chargers.
According to reports from Macworld, iPhone 12 users are now experiencing wireless charging speeds of up to 15W with third-party Qi2 wireless chargers, a notable improvement from the previous limit of 7.5W. This enhancement brings parity with the MagSafe charging standard introduced with the iPhone 12 lineup, which has always supported 15W charging speeds with official Apple-certified MagSafe chargers.
While Apple hasn’t officially mentioned this improvement in the iOS 17.4 release notes, it’s nonetheless a welcome development for iPhone 12 users. This follows a similar trend seen with previous iOS updates, such as iOS 17.2, which also brought charging speed enhancements for newer iPhone models.
With the rollout of iOS 17.4, users can also benefit from additional features like podcast transcription, improved security features, new emoji, and for those in the EU, the option to install third-party app stores for the first time.
Looking ahead, Apple enthusiasts can anticipate further updates and announcements, as iOS 18 is on the horizon. Apple has scheduled its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) for June 10, where it traditionally unveils upcoming changes and features across its software platforms for the rest of the year.
