Sony has expanded its party speaker lineup with the introduction of the SRS-XV500, a $400 speaker that stands as the most budget-friendly option in Sony’s collection of large yet portable speakers, including the SRS-XV800 and flagship SRS-XV900. Positioned in the competitive party speaker market alongside rivals such as JBL and LG, the XV500 distinguishes itself with a substantial 25-hour battery life and a rapid charging feature that replenishes two-and-a-half hours of playtime after just 10 minutes of charging.
Measuring 10.6 inches by 22 inches by 11.5 inches and weighing 24.7 pounds, the XV500’s extended battery life caters to those who love to carry the party wherever they go. Notable features include Sony’s X-Balanced speaker unit, consisting of two tweeters and two noncircular (square) 5.5-inch by 5.5-inch woofers. Sony claims this configuration produces “deeper, punchier bass with less distortion and greater vocal clarity” by maximizing the speaker diaphragm’s surface area. The inclusion of a Mega Bass button and Live Sound mode further enhances the audio experience, although specific power output details are yet to be disclosed.
Connectivity is facilitated through Bluetooth 5.2, enabling streaming from smartphones, computers, or other Bluetooth devices. While details on Bluetooth codec support are absent from Sony’s announcement, expectations are that it will at least support SBC and AAC, with hopes for compatibility with Sony’s hi-res LDAC codec, as seen in the XV800 and XV900 models. The XV500 can also be linked with other Party Connect-compatible speakers for a synchronized and immersive sound experience.
True to its identity as a party speaker, the XV500 includes a microphone input, featuring echo effects and a key control mode for adjusting music pitch. Additionally, there’s a second input suitable for another microphone or a guitar. Compatibility with Sony’s Music Center and Fiestable apps empowers users to create playlists, fine-tune sound and DJ controls, and explore karaoke and party light features. The IPX4 splashproof rating adds versatility, making the XV500 suitable for poolside gatherings without concerns about rain.
The SRS-XV500 is currently available on Sony’s website, as well as through online and brick-and-mortar retailers, priced at $400.
