The show “Berlin” is a spin-off derived from the immensely popular Spanish crime-thriller series “Money Heist,” which captivated audiences worldwide throughout its five-part narrative. The original series orbits around an enigmatic mastermind referred to as “The Professor/El Professor,” who assembles a team of adept thieves to execute a monumental heist at the Royal Mint of Spain. “Money Heist” garnered widespread acclaim from fans, critics, and global audiences, spurring an expansive franchise comprising spin-offs, video games, artworks, and documentaries. Its airing from 2017 to 2021 ignited extensive discussions and controversies. In 2022, a Korean spin-off and adaptation titled “Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area” was launched.
“Berlin,” the second spin-off stemming from the core series, spotlights one of its prominent characters. Andres/Berlin is portrayed as The Professor’s elder brother, afflicted by a terminal illness, a narrative thread revealed in the initial season of the parent show. During the subsequent parts of “Money Heist,” Berlin makes a self-sacrificial act to protect his team from capture post-heist.
Despite his apparent demise, Berlin reappears in flashbacks throughout the following three installments, unraveling facets of his earlier life before orchestrating the Royal Mint heist and detailing his planning of the Bank of Spain heist, the second major undertaking by The Professor and his team. In the forthcoming prequel series, audiences will witness Berlin’s life preceding his encounter with the remaining members of the Money Heist crew.
