The Atlanta Falcons are being linked to a big coaching name. Reports say they are showing serious interest in John Harbaugh.
John Harbaugh recently became available after leaving the Baltimore Ravens. He is a Super Bowl winning coach. That alone makes him one of the hottest options on the market.
According to Connor Hughes from SNY, the Falcons are growing more interested in Harbaugh. But they are not alone. Almost every team with a coaching opening wants him.
The New York Giants are the biggest threat. In fact, they may already be ahead of everyone else.
Hughes reported that the Giants are fully committed to landing Harbaugh. He is their top choice. He sits at the very top of their wish list.
Other teams have called. The Falcons are one of them. But the Giants seem to be pushing hardest.
Another report backs that up. Ian O’Connor from The Athletic says Harbaugh holds the Giants job in very high regard. He also likes their young quarterback Jaxson Dart. Among the six open head coaching jobs, the Giants are believed to be first or very close to first on his list.
That makes things difficult for Atlanta.
Harbaugh would be an amazing hire for the Falcons. His experience matters. His track record speaks for itself. He knows how to build winning teams.
But competition is fierce. And right now, New York looks like the favorite.
There is also another issue. The Falcons have not yet been linked to an official interview with Harbaugh. That could change soon. But as of now, nothing is scheduled.
So far, the Falcons have only been connected to a few other names. Those include Vance Joseph, Klint Kubiak, Anthony Weaver, and Kevin Stefanski.
Harbaugh would be the dream choice. No doubt about it.
Still, based on everything coming out, landing him looks like a long shot for Atlanta.
