Tylor Chase became famous as a child actor on Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide. He later appeared in a few other shows and films. Over time, he slowly disappeared from the entertainment industry.
In 2015, Tylor shared a video where he spoke openly about his mental health. He said he was living with bipolar disorder. After that, he stayed out of the public eye for years.
Recently, several videos of Tylor began circulating online. In the clips, he was seen living on the streets of California. He appeared unwell and was wearing torn clothes. The videos spread quickly and caused concern. Many people questioned why authorities were not helping him.
Police have now addressed those questions.
In an interview with PEOPLE, Riverside Police Chief Larry Gonzalez explained the situation. He said officers and outreach teams have seen Tylor in this condition for several years. He added that this is not just happening in Riverside but across California.
Gonzalez said the videos clearly show that Tylor is struggling with untreated mental illness and substance abuse. However, he explained that the mental health system depends heavily on personal choice. Even when someone appears to be in crisis, help cannot be forced unless strict legal conditions are met.
He said outreach teams have contacted Tylor many times. Help has been offered repeatedly. According to Gonzalez, Tylor often comes close to accepting services but then changes his mind. In the end, he has declined all assistance.
Some people online suggested that police should arrest him to get him help. Gonzalez said that would not solve the problem. Drug use is considered non violent in California. Even if Tylor were taken into custody, he would likely be released quickly. He would not receive treatment and would end up back on the streets.
The same issue applies to mental health care. Treatment usually requires voluntary consent.
Tylor Chase also appeared in Everybody Hates Chris and later acted in the films Good Time Max and L.A. Noire. After his last film, he stepped away from acting.
In 2025, public concern grew again after an influencer shared footage of him living on the streets. Many fans said they barely recognized him. A GoFundMe page was later created but was taken down. Tylor’s mother said he does not need money. She said he needs medical help instead.
