Number of domestic passengers grew 38%, Indigo records highest in March: DGCA

IndiGo ranks first for carrying 58.61 lakh passengers, the highest number of passengers in March.

On Wednesday, April 20, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) released the flight data for the month of March. The number of domestic passengers travelled by air is reported at 1.06 crore in March which is 38% higher than the month of February.

The occupancy rate for the private airlines in March was recorded above 80%. “The occupancy rate of Indian carriers that are SpiceJet, IndiGo, Vistara, Go First, Air India and AirAsia India were 86.9%, 81%, 86.1%, 81.4%, 85% and 81.3%, respectively, in March 2022,” as per the data of DGCA.

Whereas Alliance Air, which was recently removed as the subsidiary of Air India reported an occupancy rate of 74% in March 2022.

IndiGo ranks first for carrying 58.61 lakh passengers, the highest number of passengers in March. Followed by Go First at second position with 10.44 lakh passengers & Spice Jet at third with 10.21 lakh passengers in March 2022. Air India recorded 9.36 lakh passengers in March. Tata-owned Vistara carried 8.9 lakh passengers.

The aviation sector was in loss for the past two years due to COVID-19 restrictions but as the government allowed airlines to fly at 100% passenger capacity from October 2021, the industry is reviving itself to pre-Covid levels.
