President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social claiming that Iran has agreed never to close the Strait of Hormuz again and will no longer use it as a weapon against the world.
Trump wrote: “IRAN HAS AGREED TO NEVER CLOSE THE STRAIT OF HORMUZ AGAIN. IT WILL NO LONGER BE USED AS A WEAPON AGAINST THE WORLD! PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP”
The statement follows Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi’s announcement on X that, in line with the ceasefire in Lebanon, the passage for all commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz is “declared completely open for the remaining period of ceasefire.”
Araghchi added that ships must use the coordinated route already announced by Iran’s Ports and Maritime Organization.
Iranian state television and a senior military official clarified that the opening applies exclusively to commercial and civilian vessels. Military vessels remain banned from the strait, and any attempt to enter would face a “firm and decisive response.”
Trump has made it clear that the Iran deal is not tied to the Lebanon ceasefire, though he separately vowed to “Make Lebanon Great Again” through future support and reconstruction efforts. He has also thanked Saudi Arabia, UAE, and Qatar for their “great bravery and help” throughout the tensions.
The situation remains fluid as talks progress. Increased commercial traffic through the Strait of Hormuz is anticipated in the coming days and weeks as mine-clearing operations advance and safe routes are fully established.
