DGCA fines Air India for operating flight with non-qualified crew members

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has imposed a fine on Air India for operating flights with non-qualified crew members. The issue was brought to light following a voluntary report submitted by Air India on July 10, 2024.

The DGCA conducted a thorough investigation into Air India’s operations, including a review of documentation and a spot check of the airline’s scheduling facility. The investigation revealed several deficiencies and regulatory violations by various staff members. These issues were found to potentially impact flight safety significantly.

Additionally, the pilot involved has been cautioned to avoid such incidents in the future. The regulator considers it a serious safety concern that M/s Air India Limited operated a flight with a non-trainer line captain and a first officer who was not line-released.

The incident came to the notice of DGCA through a voluntary report submitted by M/s Air India Limited on 10th July 2024. Taking cognizance of this incident, the regulator undertook comprehensive investigations into M/s Air India Limited operations including examination of documentations and spot check of M/s Air India Limited Scheduling Facility.
