Petrol and diesel prices differ from state to state depending on the incidence of local taxes such as VAT and freight charges.
 
                  
Following two days of stability in prices, the rate of petrol has been increased from 31 to 39 paisa. The diesel price too increased from 15 to 21 paisa as yet.
 
                  
It is essential to note that the prices of petrol have hiked up 7 times in the past 12 days. The prices of petrol have increased up to Rs. 2.38 and that of diesel by 57 paise.
 
                  
Earlier this week, the Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri declined to comment on the matter unless he was fully briefed.
 
                  
The prices of fuel continues to rise across India and also has crossed the Rs 100 ball park in 16 states and Union territories, however the rates may differ from state to state depending on the VAT (value added tax).
 
                  
Petrol and diesel prices are on an ascent across the country since the assembly polls concluded at the beginning of May 2021. Monday witnessed the third hike in fuel prices during the month of July.
 
                  
On Sunday, gasoline and diesel prices were raised once further, with Kolkata poised to surpass the century milestone.
 
                  
In May, Bhopal became the first state capital to surpass the Rs 100 mark in gasoline costs. Jaipur, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru were the next cities on the list. Last week, petrol retailed for more than a hundred rupees in Patna and Thiruvananthapuram.
