In Delhi, the price of petrol increased to ₹100.91 per litre along with diesel at ₹89.88 per litre. Due to the hike, the petrol price rose above ₹100 per litre mark in Uttar Pradesh’s Rampur district, the districts of Kanker, Jashpur and Narayanpur in Chattisgarh and Nagaland’s capital city Kohima.

In the past few weeks, states like Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Telangana and Punjab had already reached the ₹100 per litre mark. The most used fuel in India, diesel, is reported to be above that mark in some places of Madhya Pradesh, Odisha and Rajasthan.

This surge is the 38th hike in petrol price since 4th May, when government-owned oil companies ended a hiatus of 18 days in rate revision observed by them during state assembly elections such as West Bengal.

In these 38 hikes, the petrol price has increased by ₹10.51 per litre alongside rates of diesel rising by ₹9.15 per litre in 36 instances of 38 price rises.
