A shocking incident inside the Supreme Court of India on Monday has taken a dramatic turn, as suspended advocate Rakesh Kishore, who allegedly tried to hurl a shoe at Chief Justice of India (CJI) BR Gavai, claimed his actions were a response to what he described as an “insult to Sanatan Dharma.”

Kishore stated that he was deeply offended by remarks allegedly made by the CJI while hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) on September 16, where, according to him, the Chief Justice had mocked Hindu idols by saying, “Go and pray to the idol and tell it to restore its own head.”

The lawyer, speaking after the incident, said:

“I was hurt. I was not inebriated; this was my reaction to his action. I am not fearful. I don’t regret what happened.”

The courtroom chaos unfolded during Monday’s morning session when Kishore approached the Bench, removed his shoe, and appeared to prepare to throw it toward the CJI during the mentioning of cases. Security officials swiftly intervened, preventing the situation from escalating. As he was escorted out, Kishore shouted, “Sanatan ka apman nahi sahenge” (“We will not tolerate the insult of Sanatan”).

The incident has sparked intense discussions about courtroom conduct, religious sensitivities, and the boundaries of protest within judicial institutions. While authorities have yet to officially comment on Kishore’s claims, the Supreme Court is expected to review the matter further.
