The Supreme Court will on Tuesday, November 18, hear the plea filed by Ashoka University professor Ali Khan Mahmudabad challenging the FIRs registered against him by the Haryana Police over his social media posts on ‘Operation Sindoor’.
A bench of Justices Surya Kant, Ujjal Bhuyan and NK Singh will take up the matter. Earlier, the Court had granted Mahmudabad interim bail and ordered the constitution of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to examine his two social media posts and submit a report.
During a previous hearing, the bench questioned why the scope of the SIT’s inquiry was expanding beyond the two posts. This came after the Court was informed that the SIT had seized Mahmudabad’s devices and was seeking details of his foreign travel over the past 10 years.
The Court reiterated that the SIT’s mandate was restricted solely to probing the content of the two posts that led to the FIRs.
This is a developing legal matter and further updates will follow as the hearing progresses.
