In a major development in the Delhi Red Fort car blast case, investigators have identified the registered owner of the Hyundai i20 that exploded near Gate No. 1 of Red Fort Metro Station on Monday evening, killing 13 people and injuring over 20 others.
According to Delhi Police sources, the car is registered to Salman, a resident of Haryana, who has since been detained for questioning. Preliminary reports suggest that Salman has claimed he sold the vehicle several months ago, though ownership transfer records appear to have not been updated in the transport database.
“The car is registered in the name of Salman from Haryana. He has been detained and is being questioned by the Special Cell. He claims to have sold the vehicle earlier, and investigators are verifying this claim through local RTO records and digital payment trails,” report said.
Authorities are now tracking the subsequent ownership chain of the vehicle to determine who had physical possession of it at the time of the blast. The Delhi Police Special Cell, NIA, and forensic teams are jointly examining whether the car was used intentionally for the explosion or if it was tampered with after being parked at the site.
Earlier, Union Home Minister Amit Shah confirmed that all possibilities, including a terror angle, are being explored, though he emphasized it was too early to draw conclusions.
The blast occurred at around 6:52 PM, causing a massive fire and damaging several vehicles near the Red Fort Metro Station. Security has since been tightened across Delhi, NCR, and Uttar Pradesh, with all major metro stations and public spaces under heightened surveillance.
