A rainfall warning is issued in Odisha since rain may continue in the coastal areas and may be troublesome for the fisherman.

After Cyclone Tej, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning against cyclone ‘Hamoon’ to affect the coastal areas of Odisha and Bengal.

IMD said, “Severe Cyclonic Storm Hamoon over Northwest BoB moved north-eastwards with a speed of 21 kmph & lay centred at 0530 hrs IST, 24 Oct over the same region, about 230 km east-southeast of Paradip(Odisha), 240 km south-southeast of Digha (West Bengal), 280 km south-southwest of Khepupara (Bangladesh).”

“Likely to weaken and cross Bangladesh’s coast between Khepupara and Chittagong around the evening of 25th Oct at CS,” added IMD. Cyclone Hamoon, named by Iran, is a Persian word that refers to inland desert lakes or marshlands.

A rainfall warning is issued in Odisha since rain may continue in the coastal areas and may be troublesome for the fisherman.

PTI reported that there will be no direct impact of the likely cyclone on Odisha, but some Durga Puja pandals, which are not strong enough to withstand such wind speeds, could suffer damage, said IMD Director General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra.

Apart from Odisha, the warning was also issued to Kerala, West Bengal, Mizoram Tripura, parts of Assam and Meghalaya between 23 and 25 October.
