The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday released a list of several properties allegedly linked to Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee, intensifying the political battle in West Bengal ahead of the upcoming elections.
The list, circulated by BJP leaders, included multiple Kolkata Municipal Corporation property assessment records carrying the name “Abhishek Banerjee” either individually or jointly with family members and other individuals across several locations in Kolkata.
The properties mentioned in the documents include addresses in areas such as Barrackpore Trunk Road, Gariahat Road, Kalighat Road, Debendra Ghose Road, Purbachal Main Road, Survey Park, Behala, Brahmapur and Mukundapur among others.
The BJP alleged that the number of properties reflected in the municipal assessment records raises questions regarding the scale of assets linked to the Trinamool Congress leader and nephew of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
The development comes amid renewed political attacks surrounding wealth disclosures and alleged asset accumulation by political leaders in the state.
Ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Abhishek Banerjee had disclosed his financial details to the Election Commission. As per the affidavit filed during the elections, his total movable assets were declared at around Rs 2.3 crore, while liabilities stood near Rs 36 lakh. The affidavit also disclosed annual income of approximately Rs 1.4 crore for FY23 along with investments including bank deposits, insurance policies and other movable assets.
- Total Assets: ₹2.32 crore (≈ ₹2.3 crore)
- Movable Assets: ≈ ₹1.26 crore (bank deposits, life insurance policies, cash in hand ≈ ₹7.72 lakh, gold, etc.)
- Immovable Assets: One residential property valued at around ₹71–78 lakh
- Liabilities: ₹36 lakh
- Annual Income (FY 2022–23): ₹82.58 lakh to ₹1.4 crore (figures vary slightly in reports; he declared income from salary as MP and other sources)
There has been no immediate detailed response from Abhishek Banerjee or the Trinamool Congress regarding the latest allegations and the list released by the BJP.
