The Income Tax Department’s Investigation Wing has launched search operations against KEI Industries, with officials conducting raids at nearly half a dozen locations linked to the company, including premises in Delhi, according to Zee Business. The scale of the operation — involving the Investigation Wing specifically, which handles significant tax evasion cases — signals this is a coordinated, pre-planned search rather than a routine survey.

The Investigation Wing — what it signals

The IT Department’s Investigation Wing is distinct from the regular assessment function. It is the specialised arm that conducts search and seizure operations — colloquially known as raids — when there is credible intelligence suggesting concealment of income, undisclosed assets or large-scale tax evasion. Deployment of the Investigation Wing across multiple simultaneous locations indicates the department had advance intelligence and coordinated the operation across premises to prevent destruction of evidence.

This is materially different from a routine tax survey, which is typically limited to business premises and does not involve simultaneous multi-location searches.

About KEI Industries

KEI Industries is one of India’s largest manufacturers of wires and cables — extra high voltage cables, HT cables, LT cables, control and instrumentation cables and house wires — supplying to power utilities, infrastructure, railways, defence, oil and gas and data centre sectors across India and approximately 60 countries. The company reported consolidated net profit rising 25.50% to Rs 284.31 crore in the quarter ended March 2026, with sales rising 19.27% to Rs 3,476.40 crore.

What happens next

Under SEBI’s LODR regulations, KEI Industries is required to disclose any material findings, demands or penalties arising from the search once the quantum becomes determinable. The company will also be required to respond to the exchanges if the search results in any formal demand or adverse order. Investors should expect the stock to remain under pressure until official clarity emerges on the scope and outcome of the searches.
