Suriya and Trisha Krishnan’s much-awaited Tamil action drama Karuppu ran into unexpected trouble on its release day after multiple morning and noon shows across Tamil Nadu were cancelled at the last minute. The sudden disruption created confusion among fans, especially after the film had already received special permission for early morning screenings from the Tamil Nadu government.
According to reports, the delay was caused by financial and distribution-related issues that emerged just hours before the scheduled release. Producer S.R. Prabhu initially described the situation as arising due to “unavoidable reasons,” while distributors later confirmed that pending financial settlements and unresolved dues from the producers’ side had prevented the film from getting clearance for theatrical screenings on time.
Directed by RJ Balaji, Karuppu stars Suriya, Trisha Krishnan and RJ Balaji in key roles. The film had generated massive anticipation before release, especially because it marks the reunion of Suriya and Trisha after more than two decades. The action drama was expected to open strongly at the box office, with advance booking estimates reportedly crossing ₹11 crore worldwide.
The situation became more emotional after RJ Balaji shared a heartfelt video apologising to fans for the unexpected delay. The actor-director reportedly broke down while addressing audiences, expressing disappointment over the cancellation of shows despite months of hard work from the entire team.
Produced by Dream Warrior Pictures, Karuppu features music by Sai Abhyankkar and was originally planned as one of the biggest Tamil releases of the year. Reports now suggest that efforts are being made to resolve the financial crisis quickly, with Suriya personally stepping in to help settle the issue and ensure the film reaches theatres soon.
