Gangubai Kathaiwadi and Badhai Do bags BIG at the 68th Filmfare Awards

Alia Bhatt’s Gangubai Kathiawadi and Rajkumar Rao’s Badhai Do shone dazzlingly at the 68th edition of the Filmfare Awards held on April 27, 2023.

Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and starring Alia Bhatt, Ajay Devgan, Shantanu Maheshwari, Vijay Raaz, Varun Kapoor, Indira Tiwari and Seema Pahwa, Gangubai Kathiyawadi bagged 10 Filmfare awards including Best Director for Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Best Actress for Alia Bhatt.

On Friday the official handle of Bhansali Productions took over their Instagram and shared a post with all the followers about Gangubai Kathiyawadi winning the best movie award. They captioned the post as “Gangu chand thi or chand hi rahegi. Thank you for all the love (white heart emoji) @filmfare”.

The movie is based on some true events and revolves around the life of a young girl named Gangubai Harjeevandas, later known as Gangubai Kothewali or Gangubai Kathiyawadi, who once was betrayed and sold to a brothel by someone is loved, but after realizing her worth and power as a woman, she started to rule the world and worked for the rights of prostitutes, with the help of her underworld connections.

Apart from Gangubai, Harshvardhan Kulkarni’s Badhai Do was another hit at the prestigious night for our Hindi film industry. Rajkumar Rao won the best actor award for his role and performance in the movie. While Bhumi Padnekar won the Best Actress award for the same.

Starring Rajkumar Rao, Bhumi Padnekar, Chum Darang, Sheeba Chadha, Deepak Arora and Vyom Yadav, Badhai Do revolves around the life of a police officer Shardul, who is gay but is unable to confess this to his family. Shardul’s life takes a turning point when he met Suman, a lesbian Woman, and they decide to get married to pretend like a normal couple in front of their families.
