When “Inside Out” premiered in 2015, it struck gold, charming both critics and audiences alike. The film raked in a whopping $850.5 million globally and added another $122.2 million in DVD and Blu-ray sales, according to The Numbers. It checked all the right boxes, earning a near-perfect 98% Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with audiences giving it a solid 89%.

Despite its massive success, Disney and Pixar took their sweet time figuring out how to continue Riley’s story. Now, nine years later, the sequel is set to debut on June 14. So, what are the chances we’ll see a third installment?

Is “Inside Out 3” confirmed?

The animated saga began with Riley as an 11-year-old, her life upended by a move from Minnesota to San Francisco. Although the sequel arrives almost a decade later, it picks up just one year after the original, with Riley now a 13-year-old navigating the turbulent waters of adolescence. The first film introduced us to Riley’s core emotions: Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust.

In the sequel, as Riley edges into her teenage years, new emotions like Anxiety, Nostalgia, Embarrassment, and Envy join the fray. The original director, Pete Docter, had envisioned even more emotions, but managing them all proved tricky. While “Inside Out 3” hasn’t been officially greenlit, it’s not entirely off the table. Plus, a spinoff TV series is reportedly in the works for Disney Plus.

If “Inside Out 2” hits it big at the box office, Disney might just decide to continue exploring Riley’s high school years, a period brimming with emotional complexity. Director Kelsey Mann offered an enticing hint to ComicBook, saying, “One of my favorites is a location we came up with called Procrastination Land. This is a land I definitely have, especially as a teen. It had a big sign that said ‘Procrastination Land,’ and then it said ‘Coming Soon.'”
