The new stamp collection will be available in July, marking four years since Trebek’s passing from pancreatic cancer in 2020. Each of the 20 stamps in the series will read, “This naturalized U.S. citizen hosted the quiz show Jeopardy! for 37 seasons,” alongside a design that echoes the iconic video monitors of the Jeopardy! game board. When flipped upside down, the answer becomes, “Who is Alex Trebek?”

USPS Art Director Antonio Alcalá spearheaded the creation of this collection, which will feature sections like Entertainment, Game Show Hosts, Famous Alexes, and Forever Stamps, all reminiscent of Jeopardy! categories.

The release of the stamps will be commemorated at a special event on July 22, which would have been Trebek’s 84th birthday. Key attendees will include USPS Secretary Michael Elston, Trebek’s wife Jean, and Jeopardy! star Ken Jennings.

Born in Ontario, Canada, Trebek became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1998. He began hosting Jeopardy! in 1984, continuing until his death in November 2020. Known for his warm smile and quick wit, Trebek endeared himself to millions, helping Jeopardy! become a cultural phenomenon.

Over his illustrious career, Trebek hosted more than 8,200 episodes of Jeopardy!, setting a record for the most episodes of a single game show hosted by one person. His contributions to television earned him numerous accolades, including a Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and seven Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Game Show Host. In 2017, he was honored with the Order of Canada, reflecting his significant impact both in his home country and beyond.

The U.S. postage stamp honoring Alex Trebek serves as a fitting tribute to a man who brought intelligence, charm, and a love of learning into countless homes. As fans and admirers collect these stamps, they’ll remember not just a game show host, but a beloved icon whose legacy continues to inspire.
