‘The Bachelor’: What was Hailey Merkt’s cause of death?

Hailey Merkt, who was a contestant on Season 21 of The Bachelor, has sadly passed away at the age of 31.

Merkt lost her battle with leukemia on July 26, 2024. Her Instagram account shared the news on July 30, saying, “With heavy hearts, we share that our beloved Hailey has passed away after a brave fight against her illness. She faced her journey with incredible strength, grace, and selflessness.”

The post continued, “Hailey was never dull—she was always hilariously funny and lived each moment to the fullest. Her vibrant spirit touched many lives, and she will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her. Her laughter, love, and lively personality have made a lasting impact on us all. Though we mourn her loss, we find solace in knowing her spirit lives on in everyone she touched.”

Hailey appeared on The Bachelor in 2017 with Nick Viall. Following her passing, several of her fellow contestants expressed their condolences. Vanessa Grimaldi, a winner from the same season, said, “This news broke me. Your bright smile and light will always be remembered. Rest peacefully, friend.” Danielle Maltby, another contestant, commented, “I’m so lucky to have known your laugh and to have met the warmest, most genuine person in such an unusual place. I’m forever grateful for your friendship, both there and in real life.”

Throughout her battle with cancer, Merkt kept her supporters updated through her GoFundMe page and Instagram stories. In April, she had shared that she was in remission. However, an update from GoFundMe organizer Christopher Bennett revealed that despite initial positive news, her leukemia returned quickly, giving her only six weeks before her passing.

Her family will keep her GoFundMe page open until August 10, 2024, for anyone who wishes to offer support during this difficult time
