Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin Season 3: release date, cast, plot details and everything we know so far!

Is Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin coming back for a third season? With the mystery still unsolved and a new threat looming, fans are eager to know if the story will continue. We’ve dug around to find the latest updates for you.

If you’ve seen the first season of this Pretty Little Liars spinoff (and if you haven’t, you should definitely check it out), you’re already familiar with our main characters: Tabby, Noa, Imogen, Faran, and Mouse. They’ve been through quite a lot since we last saw them in Millwood, Pennsylvania, and it’s time for them to deal with some of that trauma. Season 2, now known as Pretty Little Liars: Summer School, swapped the chilly fall and winter scenes from Season 1 for a sunny summer setting. Picture swimming pools, bikinis, lemonade stands, and sunshine—plus a new stalker who’s out to disrupt the healing process.

The first season, which ended in late summer 2022, was praised for its horror elements, tone, and cast. Bloody Disgusting even named it one of the best horror TV shows of the past twenty years. On September 7, 2022, HBO Max announced the show’s renewal for a second season, which aired from May to June 2024, concluding with a dramatic and deadly twist.

The original Pretty Little Liars series, based on Sara Shepard’s YA novels, captivated viewers from 2010 to 2017 with its dark twists and dramatic plotlines. It remains Freeform’s most popular series. Since then, two spin-offs have aired—2013’s Ravenswood and 2019’s The Perfectionists—but neither lasted more than one season. Now, Original Sin is the latest show in the PLL Universe to continue the legacy.

With Pretty Little Liars: Summer School wrapped up, the big question now is whether Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin will get a third season. Keep reading for the latest updates on a potential Season 3, or jump to your favorite section using the arrows below.

Is Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin Season 3 confirmed?

As of now, Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin Season 3 hasn’t been officially confirmed. However, showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa has shared that the team is optimistic about the show’s future. In a recent conversation with Deadline, he mentioned their hope that the series will return, especially after the finale of Summer School.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Aguirre-Sacasa and fellow showrunner Calhoon Bring admitted that the future of the show is still uncertain. They expressed their passion for the series and their desire to see it continue. Aguirre-Sacasa shared their vision for the show, saying that while Imogen was the final girl in Season 1 and Tabby took that role in Season 2, their dream is for the series to run for five seasons. This would allow each of the main characters to have their own final, climactic episode.

“You know what we know. We love the show. We think we’re just getting started. We’re so hopeful for a season 3. I think in our minds, the same way that in season 1, Imogen was the final girl at the end, the way that Tabby was the final girl at the end of season 2 — our dream scenario would be that the show runs five seasons, so that each of the PLLs gets one last episode where they’re the ultimate, final, final girl. So we’re very hopeful and have had a lot of conversations,”

So, while the show’s future remains in limbo, both showrunners are hopeful and have been discussing the possibilities for a potential third season.

Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin season 3 release date: When could Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin season 3 air?

Let’s rewind a bit to track the timeline for Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin. The first season started filming in the spring and summer of 2021 and made its debut on HBO Max in the summer of 2022. The show’s quick renewal for Season 2 aimed to follow a similar production schedule, but Hollywood strikes in the summer of 2023 caused some delays.

Series star Bailee Madison shared an Instagram post revealing that Pretty Little Liars: Summer School began production in early April 2023. Her post included behind-the-scenes photos, featuring the Liars and other cast members.

Entertainment Weekly broke the news in March 2024 that new episodes of PLL: Original Sin (or PLL: Summer School) would premiere on Max in spring 2024. MAX then officially announced on April 9 that the first two episodes of Pretty Little Liars: Summer School would air on May 9, 2024.

Given this timeline, if Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin is renewed for a third season, we will likely not see it until the summer of 2025 at the earliest.

What are Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin Season 3 plot details

As Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa mentioned, Pretty Little Liars: Summer School picked up almost directly where Season 1 of Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin left off. Both seasons featured a group of teenage girls being terrorized by mysterious figures—A in Season 1 and Bloody Rose in Season 2. It’s likely that if the show gets renewed for a third season, it will continue this pattern of suspense and mystery.

Season 1 wrapped up with the revelation of what happened to Angela Waters and the identity of A as Archie Waters. In the Season 2 finale, we learned that Bloody Rose was a collaboration between Mrs. Langsberry and Wes. However, not everything was neatly resolved. The show’s writers left some threads dangling, including a dramatic cliffhanger involving A’s return.

In the final scene of Season 2, Dr. Sullivan (played by Annabeth Gish) is violently attacked by Archie Waters, who was thought to be dead in prison. This shocking moment sets the stage for a potential Season 3, where A is once again a threat.

Aguirre-Sacasa hinted that the third season could explore more secrets within the new generation of Liars, their families, or even the broader universe of the show. With A back in play, the story could go in many unexpected directions.

Aguirre-Sacasa explained that the writers had extensive discussions about Archie’s fate, which was left ambiguous. They considered various scenarios, including Archie potentially facing the death penalty or dying in a prison riot. Ultimately, they decided it was crucial to address Archie’s fate directly, leading to the conclusion that he survived and is still out there, continuing his menacing activities.

Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin Season 3 cast

If Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin gets the green light for a third season, it’s likely that the core group of five main characters will return. Bailee Madison, Chandler Kinney, Maia Reficco, Zaria, and Malia Pyles, who play Imogen, Tabby, Noa, Faran, and Mouse, respectively, are expected to reprise their roles. Mallory Bechtel, who portrays Kelly Beasley, might also return.

It’s almost certain that Annabeth Gish, who played Dr. Sullivan, won’t be back since her character was killed off. However, given the show’s history of twists, flashbacks could still bring her into the story in some form.

In April 2023, Elias Kacavas, known for his role as Young Cal in Euphoria Season 2, was promoted to a series regular. He played Greg, Karen’s boyfriend, in Season 1. Jordan Gonzalez, who played Ash, Minnie’s love interest, was also promoted to a series regular. Additionally, the parents of the Little Liars—played by Lea Salonga, Sharon Leal, Elena Goode, and Zakiya Young—might return for a potential Season 3.

New cast members were announced on March 6, 2024. Antonio Cipriano, Ava Capri, Noah Alexander Gerry, and Loretta Ables Sayre joined the cast as Johny, Jen, Christian, and Lola, respectively.

Aguirre-Sacasa also hinted that some original Pretty Little Liars cast members could make an appearance in Season 3. While Season 1 focused on establishing the new Millwood setting, there were references to the original show’s locations like Rosewood and Radley Asylum. For Season 3, if it happens, the return of past cast members would need to fit naturally into the storyline.
