Elon Musk and his relationships are one heck of a topic for discussion. In November 2021, the billionaire Tesla co-founder welcomed twins with Shivon Zilis, one of his top executives at Neuralink, barely one month before welcoming another child with his inconsistent partner Grimes. However, Musk didn’t first see Grimes or Zilis as the first women. Here are some couples that have made headlines.
Justine Musk
The tech whiz’s first wife, Justine Musk (Justine Wilson), married him in 2000. In 2002, the couple received their first son, Nevada, but at the age of ten weeks, he passed away from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). The couple went on to bear five children in total: two sets of twins, Gryphon and Vivian, in 2004 and two sets of triplets, Kai, Saxon, and Damian, in 2006. After Elon and Justine parted ways in 2008, Justine revealed to Marie Claire in 2010 that her former spouse viewed her as a “starter wife.”
Talulah Riley
Actress Talulah Riley got married to the billionaire in 2010 after getting engaged to him six weeks after he filed for divorce from Justine. After their first divorce at Elon’s request in 2014, the pair went through a difficult period. Sixteen months after their reconciliation and second marriage, Riley filed for divorce.
Amber Heard
After that, the SpaceX founder moved on to Amber Heard, whom he began dating in late 2016, not long after the “Aquaman” star and Johnny Depp parted ways. Their busy schedules caused her and Musk to break up after just a year. In November 2017, Musk continued to tell Rolling Stone that he was “really in love, and it hurt bad,” and that the breakup was really tough for him.
Grimes
In April 2018, only one month before the couple made their first appearance on the red carpet at the Met Gala, Musk started dating artist Grimes. They connected online when Musk saw Grimes had already made a joke on artificial intelligence, which he had intended to post.
By autumn 2018, rumours of a breakup were starting to circulate after artist Azealia Banks said that she had been hanging around the billionaire’s Los Angeles estate, waiting for Grimes to arrive so they could collaborate on music, prompting Musk and Grimes to unfollow each other on Twitter.
However, Grimes stated in a March 2019 interview with WSJ Magazine that she and Musk were still dating. She shared a picture of her growing baby bulge on Instagram in January 2020 to reveal her pregnancy.
While the singer was recovering from giving birth, Grimes and Elon engaged in a Twitter debate on the pronunciation of their son, X Æ A-12, which they welcomed in May 2020.
Later on, to comply with California law, the parents altered the name of their child to X Æ A-XII. After three years of dating, the pair called it quits. Musk revealed on social media that he and the Canadian singer are “semi-separated,” but they are still friendly and co-parent their one-year-old son.
Following reports that he was seeing Australian actress Natasha Bassett, Grimes revealed the couple was back together in her March 2022 Vanity Fair cover story. She also disclosed that in December 2021, she surrogate-born a baby girl known as Exa Dark Siderael Musk. She disclosed that they had broken up once more a few hours after the tale was made public.
Shivon Zilis
Zilis was the head of operations and special projects at Neuralink. In July 2022, it was revealed that Musk and Zilis had secretly welcomed twins in November 2021.
