Suriya’s much-awaited film Karuppu finally arrived in theatres on May 15 and recorded a solid opening at the Indian box office. The movie had faced release-related issues before its theatrical debut, but audience anticipation and the actor’s strong fanbase helped it begin on a positive note.
According to early trade estimates by Sacnilk, Karuppu earned approximately ₹11–13 crore on its opening day across India. Tamil Nadu emerged as the strongest market for the film, while Telugu-dubbed versions also contributed to the overall collections.
Directed by RJ Balaji, the action drama stars Suriya in the lead role alongside Trisha Krishnan in a key role. The film had created strong pre-release buzz through its posters, trailer and promotional campaign.
Trade experts believe the movie has started on a healthy note despite the release complications reported earlier this week. Positive audience reactions and weekend growth could further boost the film’s box office performance.
With Suriya returning to the big screen in a mass-action role, industry trackers will now closely watch whether Karuppu can maintain momentum and deliver a strong opening weekend collection.
