As the trailer for the highly anticipated horror-comedy Bhooth Bangla dropped today, veteran actor Paresh Rawal sent expectations skyrocketing with a massive statement. Despite some initial social media skepticism regarding the film’s VFX, Rawal remains confident that this reunion with director Priyadarshan and Akshay Kumar will surpass their previous cult classics.
During the trailer launch event, Rawal didn’t hold back when asked about the inevitable comparisons to the 2007 blockbuster Bhool Bhulaiyaa.
“Bhooth Bangla is better than Bhool Bhulaiyaa,” Rawal declared.
He explained that while both films share the same creative DNA, this new project offers a more “profound impact” alongside the scares. According to Rawal, the film retains Priyadarshan’s signature situational comedy but elevates the storytelling to a more “mature and resonant” level for the 2026 audience.
Director Priyadarshan clarified that unlike Bhool Bhulaiyaa, which rooted its supernatural elements in psychology, Bhooth Bangla is a full-scale fantasy. Shot at the historic Chomu Palace in Rajasthan, the film explores Indian superstitions through a “quantum physics” lens, aiming for a grand, gothic visual style.
The launch event was filled with the trademark humor fans expect from this team. Akshay Kumar made a grand entrance in torn clothes, joking with the media, “Yeh haal mera bhooton ne kiya hai (The ghosts did this to me). When a man produces a film, this is exactly what happens to him!”
The film marks the first collaboration between Akshay and Priyadarshan in 14 years. With a “Comedy Avengers” supporting cast including Tabu, Rajpal Yadav, and Johnny Lever, the buzz is undeniable. While the internet debates the trailer’s technical polish, Rawal’s bold claim has ensured that all eyes will be on the theaters when the film releases on April 17, 2026.
