The Bengali film and television industry is grieving the sudden loss of versatile actor Rahul Arunoday Banerjee, who passed away at the age of 43 on March 29, 2026. He drowned in the sea at Talsari beach near Digha while shooting for the TV serial Bhole Baba Par Karega. He was rushed to a local hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Rahul’s tragic end has left fans and colleagues shocked. A video from his final moments on the shoot set — showing him calmly preparing a scene near a car — has also surfaced online.
What makes the tragedy even more poignant is that Rahul’s last Instagram post was uploaded on the very day of his death. The reel, a collaborative post with his podcast Sohoj Katha, features a lively clip of him in conversation with actor-politician Bratya Basu. In the snippet, Rahul is seen asking why Bratya avoids attending theatre performances despite multiple invitations. The caption encouraged followers to watch the full episode on YouTube (released on March 27).
Rahul’s official Instagram handle is @rahularunodaybanerjee. His final post can be viewed here:

Rahul started as a child theatre artist and gained fame with the 2008 hit Chirodini Tumi Je Amar. He delivered strong performances in films like Love Circus, Jaatishwar, and popular TV shows such as Khela, Tumi Ashbe Bole, Desher Maati, and Laalkuthi. He is survived by his wife, actress Priyanka Sarkar, and their 13-year-old son.
Tributes continue to pour in from the Tollywood fraternity. Rahul’s warm screen presence and dedication to his craft will be remembered fondly. May his soul rest in peace.
