Delhi weather updates: Capital city to get rain amid sweltering heat

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted rain for Delhi this week, offering some respite from scorching temperatures as the mercury soared to 42 degrees Celsius in the national capital.

On Tuesday, Delhi recorded its highest temperature of the season, three notches above the normal mark. While some parts of the city continue to endure temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius, no heatwave warning has been issued yet.

According to Mahesh Palawat of Skymet Weather, the weather enthusiast predicted – “Heat is on. 42 degrees for Delhi is the highest maximum of the season. Dry and 🔥 weather may continue until May 10. Patchy rain and 10 & 11 may give short term relief. #HeatWave possible over Rajasthan and west MP. Take care. #DelhiRains.”

However, there is some relief in sight for Delhiites, as the weather agency predicts light drizzles and thunderstorms in the capital on May 11 and 12.

Comparatively, during the second week of May in 2023, Delhi experienced a high temperature of 42 degrees Celsius. Interestingly, there was no heatwave during the last summer season, according to the weather department.

With rain on the horizon, Delhi residents can expect a temporary reprieve from the stifling heat as the city prepares for a change in weather conditions.
