Google has commenced construction on its landmark AI hub in , , marking the company’s largest investment in India’s digital infrastructure to date. This initiative, developed in collaboration with AdaniConneX and Nxtra by Airtel, aims to establish a gigawatt-scale AI ecosystem to support India’s economic and environmental resilience.

The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by prominent figures, including Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, India’s Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & Information Technology, and Shri Nara Chandrababu Naidu, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. The event signifies the start of a project that aligns with India’s vision of becoming a global leader in technology.

Google’s AI hub in Visakhapatnam is part of a $15 billion investment plan over five years (2026-2030) to build a comprehensive AI ecosystem in India. This project, first announced in October 2025, includes three data center campuses and aims to contribute significantly to the government’s Viksit Bharat 2047 vision.

The AI hub will feature the America-India Connect initiative, expanding the fiber-optic network and prioritising clean energy to accelerate India’s goal of reaching 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030. This infrastructure will provide high-performance, low-latency services to businesses and organisations, enabling them to develop and scale AI-powered solutions.

In addition to technical advancements, the AI hub represents a long-term investment in local job training, community projects, and resource stewardship. is launching several community development initiatives in Visakhapatnam, including water management, maritime trade modernisation, and support for women-led enterprises.

Google’s commitment to Visakhapatnam includes the Skills Trade and Readiness (STAR) program, which aims to create sustainable career paths for local talent. This initiative will provide training in high-demand fields and integrate employability coaching to prepare over 1,000 individuals for roles in the city’s digital infrastructure development.
