Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertilizers & Chemicals Limited (GNFC) on February 14, 2026, reported a chlorine gas leakage incident at its TDI-I Plant located in Bharuch, Gujarat. The company confirmed that the situation was swiftly brought under control, with no casualties or damage to property.
According to the regulatory filing, the incident occurred at around 21:17 hours on Saturday when a sudden leakage of chlorine gas was detected at the TDI-I Plant. GNFC stated that its in-built safety systems functioned immediately, leading to an automatic shutdown of the plant to prevent any further escalation.
The company clarified that the incident remained confined within the plant premises and that there was no gas release beyond the boundary of the facility. It also confirmed that there was no adverse impact on the surrounding areas.
GNFC further stated that no loss of life or property damage was reported. As there was no physical damage, the matter does not require any insurance claim. The company also noted that the incident does not involve any strike or lockout situation and therefore has no such operational implications.
Normal plant operations were safely restored by 02:12 hours on February 15, 2026 (IST), indicating that the shutdown was temporary and precautionary in nature.
