Asahi cyberattack halts beer production across Japan, investigation ongoing

Japanese brewing giant Asahi Group Holdings has been forced to halt production at its domestic factories following a cyberattack that struck on Monday, disrupting operations nationwide.

The company confirmed in a press release that it was experiencing a “system failure” that led to the suspension of production, shipment and order systems, and call center operations. Asahi stressed that, as of now, there is no evidence of customer or personal data leakage.

On Tuesday, a company spokesperson told Reuters that production has yet to resume and that Asahi cannot provide a timeline for recovery. The company is also investigating whether the attack has affected all of its 30 plants across Japan.

Asahi did not comment on whether the incident involved ransomware, a demand for money, or data theft. The disruption marks one of the most significant cyberattacks to hit a major Japanese beverage manufacturer in recent years, raising concerns about vulnerabilities in industrial and supply chain systems.
