Tuesday, Nov 27 — Orient Electric Limited has received a significant relief from the GST department after authorities issued a rectification order reducing the previously raised demand of Rs 51,59,48,406 to only Rs 31,904 plus applicable interest. The update was shared by the company through a stock exchange filing.
According to the filing, the Assistant Commissioner (ST), Egmore Assessment Circle, Chennai, passed the rectification order on November 26, 2025, under Section 161 of the Tamil Nadu GST Act, 2017 and the Central GST Act, 2017.
The original demand issued on August 23, 2025, had included:
– Tax: Rs 29,34,26,563
– Interest: Rs 19,31,79,187
– Penalty: Rs 2,93,42,656
totalling over Rs 51.59 crore.
Orient Electric had filed an application seeking rectification of errors under Section 161, following which the revised order drastically reduced the liability. The company said the matter now stands rectified as per the latest order.
