Tilaknagar Industries Ltd. (TI), the country’s leading brandy maker and one of India’s fastest-growing spirits companies, has stepped into the premium whisky space with the launch of Seven Islands Pure Malt Whisky. Made using a blend of carefully selected Indian and Scottish malts, the new release is positioned as a 100% pure malt offering.
This launch marks a major strategic shift for TI. The company, known for shaping India’s brandy market through long-standing favourites like Mansion House and its newer Monarch Legacy Edition, is now widening its portfolio. The move also comes shortly after its announcement to acquire Imperial Blue — the world’s third-largest selling whisky brand. With this, the 90-year-old company is clearly setting whisky up as its next big growth engine, alongside its established dominance in brandy.
Whisky continues to be India’s most preferred and aspirational spirits category, making up around 66% of total consumption in 2024 as per IWSR data. The category has kept its momentum in 2025 as well, with Indian whisky volumes rising 7% year-on-year in the first half and crossing the 130 million case mark. Premiumisation trends are strengthening, and exports are also growing, pointing to a rising global appetite for Indian-made whiskies.
