Social media erupted on Tuesday morning as traders expressed frustration — and humor — over the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) remaining non-operational for more than two hours, despite repeated announcements about revised start times.

From sarcastic remarks to viral memes, users across X (formerly Twitter) voiced their anger at what they called a “recurring expiry-day glitch.”

One user wrote, “MCX exchange issues on every expiry — permanent hoon sir,” sharing a meme that quickly went viral. Another said, “We’re 75+ minutes into another MCX outage… will this too be brushed under ‘technical glitch’?”

Others shared memes comparing traders’ helplessness to scenes from Bollywood movies. “Traders with overnight positions in Silver and Gold to MCX: Are kholo bhai,” one post read.

The outage — which MCX attributed to a technical issue at its end, shifting operations to its Disaster Recovery (DR) site — caused trading to remain halted well past 10:30 AM, the time initially promised for resumption.

The incident marks the second major disruption in a month, sparking renewed calls for SEBI intervention and accountability in India’s largest commodity exchange.

Developing story.
