The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned representatives of tech giants Google and Meta to appear before its Delhi headquarters on July 21, as part of its investigation into alleged money laundering involving betting applications, The Hindu reported citing official sources.

According to the report, the ED alleges that both companies’ platforms have been promoting betting apps through advertisements and facilitating their reach to users, which has come under scrutiny during the ongoing probe.

The case pertains to the use of online betting platforms for laundering money, with the ED examining the role of digital advertising in enabling these apps to attract Indian users despite regulatory restrictions.

Representatives from Google and Meta are expected to provide clarifications on their ad policies and actions taken with respect to such content.
