Ranveer Allahbadia’s obscene remarks on Samay Raina’s show, India’s Got Latent, led to a controversy, which has been spreading like wildfire, as it landed the social media influencers into legal trouble, inviting multiple FIRs against them. While several celebrities have earlier reacted to the scandal, Shark Tank India’s Anupam Mittal has joined the list now with lengthy post on LinkedIn. While the entrepreneur has not taken any side, he urged that YouTube must also be held equally responsible.

Describing Ranveer’s comment on the show as ‘totally unacceptable’, he wrote, “Summon YouTube to the High Court too, why just Ranveer and Apoorva?… The statements & language used are totally unacceptable in any civilized society. But before we get all sanskari & load up our guns, lets understand what the real issue is. India’s Got Latent wasn’t some Satyamev Jayate ka lost episode; it was always about insults, vulgarity, irreverence & shock. Like it or hate it, that was the show.”

He further added, “When the host & guests cross the line, can we get scandalized? That’s literally the algorithmic jackpot from their perspective. The reality is, that this isn’t about a few individuals but a broader social media phenomenon whose survival depends on increasing outrage… YouTube, Instagram, and digital media, platforms dangle virality like prasad, watch creators chase, and then step back when the fire starts.”

He also suggested that while Ranveer and Apoorva messed up, they did apologize, so we should start focusing on bigger issues.

Anupam also questioned why isn’t the platform, YouTube, held accountable. “How is it that kids can still access far worse content with zero guardrails?” He added.
