Oscar winning composer AR Rahman has announced separation from his wife of 29 years, Saira Banu. The couple today released a joint statement through their lawyer that they have reached the “difficult decision to separate” from each other.
“After many years of marriage, Mrs. Sarita and her husband Mr. A R Rahman have made the difficult decision to separate from each other,” read the statement from Vandana Shah and Associates.
The lawyer added that the couple has reached the conclusion “after significant emotional strain in their relationship.” The statement added that their marriage went through difficulties and tensions, which led to insurmountable gap between them, one that neither party feels able to bridge at this time.
It also requested privacy for the couple as they navigate through this difficult waters of their life.
The couple got married in 1995 and are parents to three children – Khatija, Raheema, and Ameen.
