Despite having had only limited success in India with its previous models, French carmaker Citroen is now preparing to turn things around with the launch of the Basalt, a mid-size coupe SUV that will go on sale in the second half of this year. Presented as the third vehicle to come out of Citroen’s C-Cubed program, which has previously birthed the C3 and C3 Aircross, the Basalt is meant to impress Indian consumers with its unique combination of performance, style and cutting-edge technologies.
After the concept version was unveiled earlier this year, new spy photos have revealed more details about the production-ready Citroen Basalt’s features and appearance. The video, which was posted on Instagram by @1DGASM, shows the Basalt in all of its raw beauty and startling similarities to the Basalt Vision concept.
The Citroen Basalt is an upgraded version of the Citroen C3 Aircross, characterized by its unique coupe-style sloping roofline. The production variant of the SUV includes design elements from the Basalt Vision concept, showcasing its powerful character and beautiful proportions in the spy video.
While the spotted Basalt looks to be a mid-spec variant, lacking features like alloy wheels and projector LED headlights shown on the concept vehicle, higher-spec trims are expected to include a comprehensive suite of premium amenities. The Basalt, which stands above the C3 Aircross, is likely to include extra features, such as LED projector headlights, automatic temperature control, auto-dimming IRVM, rain-sensing wipers, keyless entry, push-button start and ventilated seats.
