Deepak Baij, a member of the parliament, was nominated by the Congress on Wednesday to succeed Mohan Markam as head of its Chhattisgarh branch. Prior to the state Assembly elections scheduled for later in the year, a replacement was made.
According to a statement released by the party, Deepak Baij, MP, has been nominated as the new president of the Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee.
The statement made in the order by All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary K C Venugopal said, “The party appreciates the contribution of the outgoing PCC president Mohan Markam, MLA.” From the Chhattisgarh district of Bastar, Baij won election to the Lok Sabha. As of June 2019, Markam was set to be replaced as the chairman of the Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC). He represents Kondagaon as a member of the legislature.
