MasterChef Australia fans were once again shocked by the contestants’ unsanitary practises. In a recent show, a participant was spotted coughing openly in the kitchen while also cooking. Viewers were disgusted by how unsanitary the behaviour was and turned to social media to condemn the event.

During an episode of the cooking show, Rue Mupedzi was spotted coughing in the kitchen. Following the Tuesday broadcast, a show watcher launched a Reddit thread slamming the show for missing “basic culinary hygiene.”

“Why does MasterChef make no effort to teach basic culinary hygiene? The contestants must look good I guess. Brent must never be in a kitchen without a beard net. Maybe outside at a BBQ at best.” The spectator went on to point out the candidates’ errors one by one. They mentioned a participant who was missing a hairnet and stated that if they encountered this practice in person, they would dine somewhere else.

The user also pointed out how Malissa went on to knead the dough with her hands while her ring was on her hand. “I forget who but one cook clearly moved from cutting fresh fish to herbs with the same knife in jeweled hand – perhaps an editing error but the point remains,” they noted.

While talking about hairnets, a few viewers did not think they were that important. The majority of the fans spoke about how tasting with your fingers is unnecessary. “I do wish contestants would use any of the dozens of spoons provided for tasting rather than dip their fingers in their sauce/creme anglaise/etc. then shove their fingers in their mouth.”

On May 1, Judge Jock Zonfrillo died unexpectedly at the age of 46. The cause of the judge’s death was not disclosed by his family. Rumours circulated shortly after Jock’s death that judges Andy and Melissa were planning to leave the show. The judges’ quick departure could be due to the need for time to grieve their buddy and co-star.

The entire hosting panel was rumoured to be replaced. MasterChef Australia did it once previously when Matt Preston, Gary Mehigan, and George Calombaris announced their departure from the show in 2019.
