India hits two new milestones as the total number of cases crossed the 10 lakh mark and death toll crossed the 25,000 mark. In the last 24 hours, the states reported 34,956 fresh cases and 687 fatalities. India is currently the third country to report 1 million cases after the US and Brazil.
As per the Union Health Ministry, India currently has 3,42,473 active cases which account to about one-third of the total number of cases. In the last 24 hours, 22,942 patients recovered from the Coronavirus infection taking the recoveries tally to 6,35,756.
According to the data released by the government, about 1.3 crore samples have been tested for Coronavirus so far. On Thursday alone, 3.3 lakh samples were tested. The total number of testing labs in the country has been increased to 1,234. Out of these, 874 labs come under the government sector and the rest 360 come under the private sector.
“As per the “Test, Trace, Treat” strategy, the Central Government is driving enhanced testing initiatives in State/UTs. As a result, there has been a steady rise in the number of testing labs across the country. The increased testing is in accordance with the ICMR Guidelines and has helped in early detection of cases,” the Union Health Ministry said. “All registered medical practitioners can now recommend testing. This coupled with the facilitation of widespread testing by States/UTs through the RT-PCR, TrueNat and CBNAAT lab network has contributed to a surge in the number of samples tested,” it added.
