Tarun Bajaj, who was recently appointed as additional charge of Economic Affairs Secretary has been given additional charge Of the Corporate Affairs Secretary under the Government of India on Monday. This comes just days after President Droupadi Murmu appointed Rajesh Verma as Secretary at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Bajaj is a Haryana cadre IAS officer from the 1988 batch. He earned a bachelor’s degree in commerce (B. Com) from Shri Ram College of Commerce, a master’s degree in science (MSc) from the London School of Economics and Political Science, an MBA from IIM Ahmedabad, and a CFA from the Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts of India University.
Prior to joining the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Bajaj had worked in the Ministry of Finance. He has worked in Prime Minister’s Office as Joint Secretary and Additional Secretary. He had also held an additional charge as Revenue Secretary.
The Ministry of Corporate Affairs is primarily concerned with the administration of the Companies Act 2013, the Companies Act 1956, the Limited Liability Partnership Act, 2008, and other allied Acts, as well as the rules and regulations framed thereunder, primarily for regulating the legal operation of the corporate sector.
The Ministry is also in charge of enforcing the Competition Act of 2002 in order to prevent anti-competitive practices, promote and sustain competition in markets, and protect consumers’ interests through the commission established by the Act.
