The United States has issued a stark warning regarding the precarious situation in Avdiivka, a crucial town in eastern Ukraine, amidst escalating tensions with Russia. With Avdiivka witnessing some of the fiercest fighting in recent months, the town finds itself on the brink of potential capture by Russian forces. The U.S. assessment highlights the pressing concern of ammunition shortages faced by Ukrainian defenders, significantly compromising their ability to repel Russian advances.
President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine has vowed to prioritise the safeguarding of Ukrainian lives as Russian troops continue to gain ground in Avdiivka, posing a grave threat to its security. The urgency of the situation is further underscored by the delayed approval of a $95 billion foreign aid package by the US Senate, a substantial portion of which is designated to bolster Ukraine’s military capabilities.
NATO Secretary General Jen Stoltenberg has sounded the alarm over the repercussions of the U.S.’s failure to provide continuous military assistance, lamenting its adverse impact on the battlefield. Against this backdrop, President Zelensky is slated to embark on diplomatic visits to Berlin and Paris, seeking to solidify security agreements with European counterparts amidst the escalating crisis.
