The Serum Institute is the world’s largest manufacturer of vaccines by volume and has signed an agreement to manufacture the potential vaccine developed by the Jenner Institute of Oxford University in collaboration with pharma company AstraZeneca.

The CEO of Serum Institute, Adar Poonawalla said that he remains optimistic on Oxford COVID-19 vaccine. The Oxford University-AstraZeneca vaccine is now undergoing phase III clinical trials. The trials are being conducted in Britain, South Africa, Brazil and India.

Adar Poonawalla tweeted, “Proud and excited for the next few months and looking forward to the vaccine.” Poonawalla also shared a photo where he is standing next to Professor Adrian Hill. Professor Adrian Hill is director of the Jenner Institute. The institute develops vaccines for infectious diseases.

Serum Institute of India has also entered into partnership with Gavi and Bill and Melinda Gates foundation to speeden the manufacture and delivery of up to 100 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines.

CEO of Serum Institute Adar Poonawalla was recently named among the emerging leaders from across the world by Fortune in its annual list of influential people under the age of 40.
