Jordanian military forces have reportedly engaged and neutralized five smugglers attempting to transport drugs across the border from Syria. The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, with the military seizing significant quantities of narcotics. In recent times, Jordan has served as a transit route for smuggling Captagon, a highly addictive amphetamine, from Syria to wealthy Gulf states. The majority of Captagon production originates in Syria, making it a lucrative trade route for smugglers.
Recognizing the severity of the situation, Jordan convened a meeting of interior ministers from Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, and Jordan to address the issue of drug trafficking. During the meeting, the participating countries agreed to establish a collaborative telecommunications network to facilitate the exchange of information aimed at combating illegal drug activities across borders.
