Hong Kong lifts flight ban from 9 countries including India

India, Nepal, France, Britain, the US, Australia were enlisted among the list of 9 countries.

On Monday Carrie Lam, Hong Kong’s Chief Executive addressed a press conference that they have decided to lift the ban on international flights coming from 9 countries of which enlisted were Britain, the US, India, France, and recently in February it had included Nepal as well.

The virus outbreak was quite fast inside the financial hub, although strict measures had already been in place. Within 90 days Lam said a record million Omicron cases were registered and close to 5,599 casualties.

Lam was happy to announce the flight ban lift, “Hong Kong will now lift the flight bans which is called as the circuit-breaker from these 9 countries. The ban is non-functional now.”

She further added, “Hong Kong suffered worst pandemic situation when compared to these 9 countries, and according to our airport screening data most passengers arriving from these 9 countries showed very less serious symptoms.”

Carrie Lam’s department has been criticized several times for not being clear on the lockdown and mass testing measures causing panic buying among residents and thereby resulting in chaos.

Residents of Hong Kong were unsure of the lockdown measures and started striping the grocery and supermarkets empty. Also, many locals and foreign residents exited Hong Kong in volumes. By the 3rd week of March, a record exodus of 1,34000 residents have left Hong Kong.
