Afghanistan: Taliban launches attack on northern city of Mazar-e-Sharif

On Friday, the insurgent group captured four provincial capitals in Afghanistan, including the city of Lashkar Gah in the province of Helmand.

Terror group Taliban on Saturday launched a major attack on the city of Mazar-e-Sharif, The Economic Times reported. Taliban spokesperson Muhammed Suhail Shaheen assured that diplomats or embassies will not be attacked. 

In a video released by the Taliban on Saturday, the insurgents announced that the group has seized the main radio station in Kandahar. The radio station which was renamed Voice of Sharia will be used to broadcast news and recite Quran.

To speed up the evacuation of Afghan citizens by the US, the Marine Vanguards arrived in Afghanistan to stand guard for the US battalion.

On Friday, United Nations (UN) spokesperson António Guterres said that the situation in Afghanistan is spinning out of control. “Even for a country that has tragically known generations of conflict, Afghanistan is in the throes of yet another chaotic and desperate chapter – an incredible tragedy for its long-suffering people,” he said in an official statement. 

“I remind all parties of their obligation to protect civilians & I call on the Taliban to immediately end the offensive & return to the peace table,” he further added.
