Sylvester Stallone’s dedication to his craft is legendary, especially when it comes to his physical transformation for roles in iconic films like the Rocky series. However, one of Stallone’s most peculiar health challenges arose during the filming of “Rocky III,” leading to some concerning effects on his well-being.
Maintaining the physique of a champion boxer required Stallone to take drastic measures, including a rather extreme coffee consumption regimen. In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Stallone disclosed the staggering extent of his caffeine intake during the production of “Rocky III.”
“I used to drink about 25 cups a day when I was doing Rocky 3,” Stallone revealed, shocking even the most avid coffee enthusiasts. Such an excessive consumption of coffee, coupled with a highly restricted diet, took a toll on Stallone’s health, leading to unexpected consequences.
Stallone’s breakfast regimen during this period was equally unconventional, consisting of only two small oatmeal cookies made with brown rice and a whopping 10 cups of coffee. His goal? To maintain a body fat percentage as low as 2.8%, a feat that required extreme measures.
However, the repercussions of this extreme diet and caffeine overload were severe. Stallone experienced memory loss, forgetting even basic information like his phone number. His physical health suffered as well, with debilitating effects that left him reeling.
“I was getting all kinds of debilitating physical effects,” Stallone recounted, reflecting on the toll his regimen took on his body. Yet, despite the challenges he faced, Stallone remained steadfast in his commitment to the film’s production, attributing his sacrifices to “the cause.”
While “Rocky III” may not be everyone’s favorite installment in the series, Stallone’s dedication to his craft is undeniable. His willingness to push himself to the limits, even at the expense of his health, underscores his unwavering commitment to delivering memorable performances. And while his coffee-fueled regimen may seem extreme, it undoubtedly contributed to the authenticity and intensity of his portrayal on screen.
