Alx Nunez, who is Danielle Staley’s boyfriend, is now talking about what happened the night she disappeared from a beach bonfire in Santa Cruz County on November 6. He says he reported her missing the next day. He also says he has no idea where she went or what happened to her. He even says he is willing to take a lie detector test. He explained that he decided to speak publicly because people online are accusing him and he wants to clear his name. Police have not called him a suspect, but they have said something bad could have happened and that Danielle might be in danger.
Nunez says things have become tense with Danielle’s family. Her stepfather traveled from Utah to help with the search. According to Nunez, the stepfather has accused him of hiding details. Nunez says this is not true and that he has been open about everything. He says he even handed over his vehicle to investigators. Danielle’s mother and brother have also spoken up. They say they have been worried about Nunez for years and describe Danielle and Nunez’s long relationship as unhealthy and controlling.
Danielle is thirty five years old. She disappeared around eleven twenty at night while at a bonfire on Rio Del Mar State Beach near Aptos. She was with a group of people no one seems to know well. She had been traveling with Nunez in a white camper van. Police say Nunez has cooperated with them. He says he thinks Danielle might have relapsed on drugs and could now be with people who also use drugs. After she vanished, her things were found left behind on the sand, including her phone. Police say that is very unlike her. They also say she has no friends or family in the area and usually stays in touch with her family in Utah, so her silence is worrying.
Nunez says he knows people usually suspect the boyfriend first, but he just wants to help find her. He says he is not leaving the area and will do whatever he can. He again said he is ready to take a polygraph if investigators want it.
Danielle is five foot six and about one hundred twenty pounds. She has blond hair. She was last seen wearing a dark hoodie and leopard print leggings.
