The Miami Dolphins are moving forward with the next phase of their organizational reset.
After dismissing Chris Grier during the season, Miami hired Jon Eric Sullivan as its new general manager. The focus has now shifted to finding a new head coach.
The Dolphins will not be navigating that process alone. According to Barry Jackson of The Miami Herald, Troy Aikman will remain involved as an advisor during the head coaching search.
Aikman previously assisted the organization during its general manager search. His role will now continue in a similar capacity as Miami evaluates coaching candidates.
Jackson reported that Sullivan will lead the search, working under owner Steve Ross, with Aikman providing guidance throughout the process.
Miami is widely viewed as having secured one of the top general manager candidates available this offseason. With Sullivan in place, the coaching search is expected to gain momentum.
Although the team could have proceeded without outside input, the Dolphins appear encouraged by Aikman’s involvement and have opted to keep him engaged.
Several high profile names are already being linked to the vacancy. Jim Harbaugh remains a prominent option, particularly due to his longstanding relationship with Ross.
Kevin Stefanski is another candidate being monitored. The former Browns head coach is seen as an experienced option who could draw interest from Miami.
At this stage, the Dolphins have not begun formal interviews. However, Harbaugh and Stefanski are widely regarded as leading possibilities.
Aikman will not have final authority over the decision. His role is expected to be advisory, offering perspective as Sullivan navigates his first head coaching hire as a general manager.
The Dolphins are expected to be active in the coming weeks as they search for a head coach capable of leading the franchise into a new era beyond Tua Tagovailoa.
