Punjab Kings pulled off another big chase, hunting down 220 to beat Sunrisers Hyderabad at Mullanpur and register their 10th successful 200-plus chase in the IPL.
PBKS respond to SRH’s powerplay assault with one of their own
SRH looked set for a much bigger total after a fierce start. Abhishek Sharma led the charge with an 18-ball fifty and went on to score 74 off 28 balls. Alongside Travis Head (38), he powered SRH to 105 without loss in the powerplay.
Punjab were under pressure early but hit back through Shashank Singh, who removed both openers in the same over. That spell slowed the scoring rate and kept SRH to 219 for 6, a total that once looked like crossing 250.
In reply, Punjab’s openers matched the intent. Priyansh Arya (57 off 20) and Prabhsimran Singh (51 off 25) dominated the powerplay, taking the side to 93 without loss in six overs. Both batters played with freedom and cleared the boundary regularly to put the chase firmly on track.
Iyer leads from the front to seal chase
Punjab lost three wickets in the middle overs, with Shivang Kumar picking up key breakthroughs. At 128 for 3, the game briefly opened up.
Shreyas Iyer ensured there was no collapse. The captain took control, paced the innings well and kept the scoreboard moving. He found boundaries at regular intervals and never let the required rate climb.
Iyer finished unbeaten on 69 off 33 balls, striking at over 200 and guiding the chase with authority. His partnership with Nehal Wadhera steadied the innings before Shashank Singh applied the finishing touch with the winning boundary.
Punjab’s approach stood out. They absorbed pressure after SRH’s fast start, pulled things back with the ball, and then executed the chase with clarity. Iyer, in particular, continues to lead from the front and remains unbeaten in this phase of the tournament.
